Vijay Dhawan received his PhD (Bioengineering) from Polytechnic Institute, New York in 1980. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship as a physicist in PET imaging (Neurology) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, he became a full time biophysicist in the same department where he performed kinetic modeling in PET from 1981-1988. In 1988, he joined North Shore University Hospital, where he has worked with David Eidelberg in the Functional Brain Imaging Laboratory ever since. He is currently a senior investigator in the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, and a Professor of Physics (Neurology) at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Dhawan’s research focuses on the use of novel radiotracers in functional brain imaging and studies the alterations in brain dopaminergic system that occurs in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders. He is an Ad-hoc reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (Canada) and Canada Foundation for Innovation. He is the author of over 100 scientific publications. He has served as an Ad-hoc reviewer for the Journal of Nuclear Medicine, Neurology, Movement Disorders, Synapse, Brain, and Journal of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism.
